The fact is the resources of the Outer Continental Shelf remain a vital source of jobs, revenue, energy reliability and security and economic growth. They can continue to be safely developed, particularly given the strengthened regulatory oversight and industry led improvements in safety procedures, accident prevention and response.
By keeping the Atlantic, Pacific and most of the Eastern Gulf of Mexico off limits, we risk missing the opportunity to develop new and potentially significant resources of oil and natural gas. The development of these resources could provide hundreds of thousands of new jobs, more than $100 billion in government revenue, and nearly 4 million barrels of oil and natural gas production.
