State of American Energy Q&A: Resources on Hydraulic Fracturing

Question: Can you point me to resources where we can learn about hydraulic fracking?

Answer: The American Petroleum Institute, along with several other industry organizations, routinely provides information and news on hydraulic fracturing. These resources are available on the Energy Tomorrow Blog, FracFocus.org, EnergyfromShale.org as well as EnergyInDepth.org.

As you’ll find, hydraulic fracturing is a well-regulated, proven technology that has been in use for more than 60 years in more than one million U.S. wells, and has safely produced more than seven billion barrels of oil and 600 trillion cubic feet of natural gas.

The U.S. is home to one of the largest natural gas reserves in the world, the shale industry activity supports more than 600,000 jobs and nearly 70 percent of our domestic natural gas development is due to the latest technologies applied by hydraulic fracturing.
