The oil and natural gas industry supports more than 9.2 million jobs nationwide. With the right public policies, we can create new jobs and help fuel an economic recovery benefiting all Americans.

We know how important our work is. Our industry supports 9.2 million direct or indirect American jobs, while working hard to deliver the reliable, affordable energy that keeps our nation running. In fact, the number of direct oil and gas industry employees is larger than the populations of 15 states.

The natural gas industry alone supports nearly 3 million jobs and the industry has created one million green jobs from low-carbon investments. Untapped U.S. oil and natural gas resources could create 160,000 jobs by 2030.

Whether it’s passing new laws, enacting regulations or raising taxes, Washington has a profound effect on our industry and our jobs. Policy that raises the cost of energy or restricts access to oil and natural gas resources can put hundreds of thousands jobs at risk and increase the costs of everything—from food and transportation to heat for our homes.

We are part of the solution. The 9.2 million jobs our industry supports across a wide range of sectors, and the more than $1 trillion in value we add to the economy, play an enormous role in providing this country with the energy it needs to power the economy and the American way of life. With the right policies, our industry has the ability to create tens of thousands of new American jobs. And increasing access to oil and gas resources currently off-limits would further increase jobs and government tax revenues.
